I placed in D-Cam a 1/4" x 8" x 13" A36 cold rolled metal shape. I would like to change it's length from 13" to 13 1/2". Can I do this with out having to delete it and insert a new shape ?
Change the length of cold rolled metal shape

Hi Kayaker,
just "cut it longer" . This is not possible in real life, but in CAD it is!
Best regards,
Jens

Hi Jens/Kayaker
I have noticed on some profiled beams that if you 'cut longer' (good expression by the way!) the profile disappears for the additional length.
In these instances I use the lengthen/shorten command in DiCAM (2-01-1 or 2). Any machine process disappear but this doesn't matter with steel, etc.
Cheers

lengthen/shorten is a very fine tool, and usually it does not kill machine processes, when you stretch the length of a beam. Processes will be moved, depending on where you set the "length stretching point". You can set this point within an area of the beam, where all it's lines are parallel. Otherwise lengthen/shorten will not work.

I was in D-cam with my metal shape cutting it longer in D-Cam I could not find the right tool. I went back into wall design and used the cut tool I offset lines 1/4" to the left and right and used them as the line to cut to which worked. Can this be done in D-CAM ?

Use Dicam 3-4-1 ... 3-4-8

Thanks Der_Planer I'm new to Dietrichs and making progress. I did make my cut in D-Cam. I like the offset tool in the other modules. In D-cam is there a simple command, that one would use for off setting lines which is so often done. I used copy line and did my offset 1/4" left and right. but there must be another way? To all of you, thanks for the help !

When you use the Dicam cutting commands, you get a small menu to enter a plus or minus distance. You need no line to define cutting offsets. An arrow in the model shows the positive direction.
In wall design (and all other constructions, too) it works the same way.
