But it is still downloadable. At least I could open it.

Aaah allright, I understand a bit better now.
But it would still be a nice option to have in for example the ground floor module, that when you delete walls, you can select multiple of them for deletion.
-
Aah ok - I thought that a wall was a volume.
-
Hmmm... - that would be a good function to get in future versions, me thinks...
So in D-cam you can delete only objects - not "volumes"? -
I don't want to delete all walls in the floors. Is it not possible to choose multiple walls and delete them in one go? I have version 7.03.
-
Hi.
When one deletes walls in groundplan, one has to delete the walls singlewise. Is this the only possible way to delete walls? Or is there another option, where one can delete multiple walls in one go?? (with or without construction objects - in this case I have deleted all construction objects in the walls first, with D-Cam, trying to make the heavy model lighter to work in - but it didn't help much).

Hi.
I think we will agree that when showing a building in OpenGL, it is the GPU that has the most important role in how big projects can be shown.
What about when working in the different modules in the program, i.e. wall module, ceiling, ground plan. What does this require from the computer? CPU power?, ram?, GPU?
-
Hi.
Did any of you try to get into the situation, where you had a project of a size that reached the limit of what your computer was capable of? It is probably not easy to tell, if a project have x number of walls, then the computer must minimum have Y CPU, Z GPU and W Ram. But maybe it could be possible to get an idea of it if people have experienced projects to be so big that the computer's limit was reached.
For example I have a project, with 886 walls into it + perhaps 410 ceilings + etc. This project is only for 3D presentation, so the walls have mainly been made with panels and ceilings is just ceiling volumes + of course what else it takes to make the building look real from outside. But for example when I delete a wall, it takes 2-3 minutes for each walls, and since I am going to make a new version of the building, I have quite some walls to delete (not all of them, but many of them).
If (or perhaps when), I am going to make the building as a construction project, I am sure my computer won't be powerful enough to handle it. With wood constaructions in many of the walls and ceilings, it will quickly become too heavy. Of course you can always divide the project in smaller parts (positions), but that is not the point. Because at some point you'd want to assemble the project to make sure everything fits together and to make the parts that you need to make in the full building.
So any experiences with projects reaching the limit of your computers capability?? And what was the computers capability, i.e. CPU, GPU and ram?

I have seen this option, but I definetely would prefer to communicate over e-mail! For a few reasons: I don't like much to talk on phone. With e-mail you can easily remember what have been asked and answered. If they had a chat option that would be ok also. But the possible lack of e-mail is a little minus on the service side.

Hi Thorvald,
First I would recommend a workstation computer or laptop they are very durable.
Second I would recommend any computer that has a NVIDIA Graphics( Nvidia Quadro )card
Below is a link for Nvidia partners.
I have had very good experience with Dell Workstation but it doesn't have to be a Dell. ) (See second Link)I like the Dell M6500 Covet version very much. But the self configurator on the Danish website does not leave the possibility to for example choose a SSD + 2 harddrives. Shouldn't that be possible?
-
Is there no e-mail to Dell?? I'd like to correspond with them via e-mail about the product, questions and about features, what includes, what not. For example I don't need the Microsoft Office, as I have Office 2000, that I expect can run also on the 64 bit Windows 7. I don't want the new versions of Office, and I also don't really need it. Also other software that is included, like antivirus, is not interesting as I have antivirus software (MSE), that I use. All such I'd like to exclude and in stead get more HDD capacity, orange/red cabinet, lower price and such, for example.
-
That sounds like a plus to Dell. Also here it is 3 years next day service. This also replies to what I say: It may be better than each 3 years to buy a "medium" quality computer (high end home use computer), to buy a workstation with very good specifications - that can last perhaps 8 years, as you say. Also because it costs perhaps 1 work day, each time you change computer - it is not something you want to do too often.
-
Hmmm, I must admit that the Dell Precision M6500's looks very interesting. I think that in this case support and warranty is much better than if you just buy a laptop computer, in much the same way as if you bought it as a private computer. On such a Dell Precision, is there 3 years waranty and 3 years support, as standard??
Just 2 things annoyed me a bit, when I was making different configurations on these Dell mobile workstations: Why I could not choose more harddrive capacity than 500 GB? Is it only the "advanced" model, I can get with the orange/red cabinet? I'd like that.
So, is Dell a good buy? Durable, very good build quality inside out, good service etc? It seems to me that you get more for the money with Dell than HP and Lenovo.
Below is some computers I have looked at - in Danish and prices in Danish. I tend to go towards Dell, perhaps "B" or "C". If I choose such one, I would assume that both the computer itself and the configuration would last longer than for example the Toshiba Qosmio. The Qosmio could perhaps last 3 years, but the Dell could perhaps last minimum 5 years?

Hello, I prefer notebooks from Acer. At the end of last year I bought an Acer- Aspire notebook with WIN7, Nvidia- graphic card, 18,4 Screen and also a number pad in the keyboard
Hmm, that one looked very interesting. But when I look at it in Denmark, it is not available with Nvidia graphics... In general it seems like most of the computers from Acer has ATI.
-
What is the definition of a workstation laptop? When is a laptop a workstation laptop?
-
Is it by the way still so that Dietrichs does not recommend ATI graphic cards for use with Dietrichs? I am using version 7.03 and my next computer will probably be with Windows 7 or as I have now Windows Vista.
And by the way, under requirements for new laptop computer I forgot to mention number pad in the keyboard.

Hi.
What is the most powerful laptop today at max. price 2685 euro?
Demands: Min. 16-17" screen, min. 500 Gb HDD (1000 Gb would be nice), and Nvidia graphics.
My thoughts is that Toshiba Qosmio X500-135, takes the prize. Other suggestions??

I'm sure, it's just the other way. Bmp is used by the program, and png for export.
Thorvald:
You can use pictures with other sizes than 512x512. At least, the width and height must be even, not odd, otherwise pictures may appear strange on some faces.Stretched pictures are used to integrate real building photos onto a wall. But: Do not use too large pictures direct from your digicam.
Before using a photo, you have to straighten and cut it in a photo software. If you use own photos for patterns or tiles, the pictures must fit seamless. You can send me one of your pictures, and I try to make it suitable...
Thanks but for now it seems to work very ok. The size also seems very good, even though I just cropped out a piece of 512x512 from a picture of the facade made in Dietrichs with real facadeboards. Vertical there should be I think 23 boards and here is 21 - no-one will notice.
-
Ok that's great - it seems to be working surprisingly well. I mean, I made a facade of "real" wood boards, with section made in material database etc. But if I make a large building with a lot of m2 of this wooden facade, the computer can't handle it in OpenGL - it gets too heavy + from distant view the lines are getting together, and the facade is just black lines. But using this texture with panels, that covers a whole wall, will make the model significant less heavy. And it actually looks very much as the "real" wooden facade boards.
-
Ok, it seems to work to some extend. I have saved a copy of the picture as all possible files, with the same number (2) in that Gif / fritext database. But for some reason the picture is turned 90 degrees. Aaaahhhh could be because the panel is inserted 90 degrees.
But I still wonder what file it was correct to save it as - it might be the "tiled" that was correct, but what file in the library it corresponds to, I don't know.
