PDF into editable drawing in Dietrichs...

  • Ok - I have a situationmap, where some buildings are sketched. This I have in PDF. I would like to use these drawings as underlay for work in Dietrichs. It is possible to convert the PDF into DXF - I tried AideCad, and when I open it in DWG viewer it looks ok, but importing it into Dietrichs it is empty. What could that be?

Another possibility is to make a screenshot of the PDF, and import it as a picture in D-Cad. But how well will that work? Can I draw on top of the picture? Maybe because the background is white.

  • Aah ok, I was thinking about that maybe it was that explode thing that I was missing. But I don't have AutoCad so I could not explode it, and I didn't have time to get it done otherwise.

So I made a screen picture of the PDF, imported it into D-Cad, and by drawing on top of the picture with lines and splines, I had a fairly good success to make the drawing by "copying" the picture. I knew the width of one of the buildings on the "picture", so it was just to insert the picture with the correct size. And then I also knew the size of the new buildings so I could draw them in correct size. And after finishing the drawing, I could delete the picture and voila, I had a fairly ok situationplan. But it was here, that the freehand drawing tool would have been useful.

  • I remember when I had AutoCad, I could import a picture file, and it is possible to draw on top of it. A nice thing in Autocad was that this imported object was scaleable as all other objects, so it was easy to scale to correct scale. In D-Cad imported pictures cannot be scaled.

I wonder what will happen, if you have an AutoCad drawing, with a scanned picture/drawing of t.ex. other buildings, roads etc. and you save this AutoCad as DXF. Insert this in D-Cad - what will happen to the scanned image - will it become editable lines as other lines you draw??
