Create a birdsmouth without deleting tenon

  • Hi,

I'm a new user from Canada. I'm just getting used to adding joinery.
I am trying to add a joint from a post to a rafter.
I have added a step notch into the rafter.
I have added a housed tenon onto the end of the post.
Now I want to birdsmouth the shoulder of the tenon, without deleting the tenon itself.

I have been shown how do it once, but I can't recreate it.

I know that I have to explode some joinery, but I'm not sure of the order.

I have attached a png, but I'm not sure if it will be very helpful, because I am having trouble zooming in OpenGL.

    Does anybody have any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    daniel

I did not understand your problem and the png is to small. Please zoome a little closer to the joinery. With the + and - buttons of your keyboard you can change the step of the zooming option in OpenGl.

  • Hi dandepoe,

it is still unclear how the joint is going to look like. To me it seems as if you do not really want to have a step joint or a bird's mouth here but simply a housed tenon!?
Can you attach a sketch with a side view of the post and the rafter with the desired joint?

    Best regards,

  • Hi Dandepoe,

Are you using Dietrich's on your Mac notebook? If so this may somehow be causing the problem of using your mouse in Open GL.

You do not need the mouse in Open GL. You can also use the arrow keys in combination with the Shift and Ctrl keys. Please give this a try and let me know how it works.
