Foundation Plan Footings

  • I decided I want to place and show foundation footings, column pads, etc. in my model I'm able to do this, I have two options for placement. One, create the footings in the wall module BA level or two; create another level for just the footings / column pads. I'm finding it very difficult, to show a foundation plan in one fell swoop with foundation features, footings and column pads. I would have thought that by selecting drawing ground plan I would get the result I'm looking for quickly. Now that I'm playing around, it appears to me that the only way to show what I want is through D-Cam save current view?

  • Hi Kayaker,

I am not quite sure how you enter your foundations in the storeys. Do you enter them as "walls" or do you enter them as "ceilings". Don´t the "ceiling drawings" or "ground plan" drawings work for you?

    Best regards,

    Jens

  • Hi Jens,

I have my foundation walls laid out in ground plan designated BA0 -8'-0" and BA1 - 8'-8" for the footing thickness of 8". I learned that that the two cannot be shown together by doing 016. It appears there are several different ways of going about this showing the foundation wall and footing on the same drawing in D-Cad- 2D. I'm just not sure which way is best.

  • Hi Kayaker,

I would recommend to create one storey just for the foundations and to enter the foundations as ceilings. Then go to Dicam into a plan view, use "6-2 MOS set" or "1-7-1 Display settings" to show only the "ceiling storey" and use "save current view". As you say there are other ways to do this but I think this is the easiest way.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Kayaker & Jens,

As we all know there are many ways to design a foundation. I have been teaching our users to always create one story for all concrete and foundation work. Start with the foundation and columns as wall volumes in ground plan. Keep the footings in the same story also using wall volumes but enter an offset (footing width - foundation wall width / 2) so the footing will be centered under the foundation. This way you can follow the edge of the foundation wall when positioning the footings. Use 3-4 to adjust the corners of the footings.

When entering square columns as a wall volume you will first need to draw the wall longer then its width and then use 3-4 to adjust the wall shorter, back to a square column.

  • Hi Jason,

I like your approach, now when sending the foundation plan to PlanCad (drawings ground plan). How do you handle the footing lines typically they are shown as dashed lines do you manually change the footing lines in PlanCad to dashed lines?

    Hi Kayaker,

make a separate template for your foundation plans:

    - open one of your foundation plans
    - find out, on which layer the foundation lines are on the plan
    - change the layer to line type "dashed"
    - delete all content of the plan
    - set the scale to 1:0
    - save it as "foundation template"

The (empty) layers are saved with the template with all their properties.

Now, if you create a foundation plan by using this template, the lines should be correct immediately.
