"Notching" a roof around a wall corner

  • Hello,

I am doing some experimenting with roof calculation and I am using the 4-4-5 (triangle) function to "notch" a roof surface around a wall corner. I think this would be very hard to explain, so I have attached a packed position to this message.

The problem that I am having is this: It appears in Roof Calculation that the roof has been properly "notched", but when it is rendered in Open GL the roof still passes through the wall and cuts it.

    Any feedback would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Daniel

  • Planer,

I am very happy with the result, but I just want to clarify how you got there.

I had 2 types of outlines. One was a "normal" building outline, and the others were graphical roof outlines.

I understand that I had graphical roof outlines where I didn't need them, and that they were deleted.

However, what were the changes to the "normal" roof lines? Did you move points to shape them around the graphical (free) roof lines? Did you then also have to change the Roof Line Properties to a Valley?

On a different topic, are you able to change the height of free roof surfaces after they have been inserted?

    Thanks,

    Daniel

    Hello Daniel,

not exactly, but close to your example:
    1. you have 3 roof faces
    2. make a triangle, nearly parallel to the existing valley lines
    3. push the triangle closer to the place where they are needed.
    4. cut roof faces with 4-3
    5. roof faces are correct, but not the ground polygon
    6. push polygon points with 2-01-4 according to the roof lines

Attention: there are different ways to push lines and points. For normal roof, use 3-2...5, for free roof use 2-01-2...5

height problem: yes, you can change it
    - Turn roof calculation into 3d
    - use 2-02, method 3 points
    - select 3 existing points of the roof face, and add the same difference to z

    done.
