I'm trying to gather some information about timber frame scale models.

How many timber framers or timber framing companies are building scale models of their customers frames?

    Thanks in advance.

PS. if someone could post this question on the German forum I'd be interested in hearing how many in Germany are doing this?

In order for your drawings to come out to a standard architectural scale you have to set your D-CAD-2D drawing scale to the correct size.
For one quarter inch to equal one foot the scale has to be set at 48.
    Here is why (12" / .25" = 48), which is ¼" goes into 12" forty-eight times.
Here are some standard scales settings.

    1/16" = 1' is 192
    3/32" = 1' is 128
    1/8" = 1' is 96
    3/16" = 1' is 64
    1/4" = 1' is 48
    3/8" = 1' is 32
    1/2" = 1' is 24
    3/4" = 1' is 16
    1" = 1' is 12
    1 1/2" = 1' is 8
    3" = 1' is 4

So when you want your 2D drawing to equal a standard architectural scale you set it to one of these values in your drawing screen view port properties dialog box. To access this D-CAD-2D window settings box you use command number 7-1 (in D-CAD-2D) and it is in third box down labeled view port. And on the line labeled: scale (1/?):

I have several different templates set up for 2D drawings and each one can be at a different scale so that when you import a single beam drawing into a new drawing created from a template it comes in at the correct scale.
This way if someone in the field needs a dimension and it's not on the drawing they can measure the drawing using a scale ruler and get the answer they need.
If you need help understanding how to create template at a standard scale let me know and I'll help you.

You may need to un-install and then do a "clean" install.
What I mean is disconnect from Internet, shut off your anti virus software, then re-install.
Sometimes anti virus software can cause problems.

Also, a disk check or defrag could help.

Good luck and let us know what happens....

PS. be sure to turn your anti virus back on before you re-connect to the Internet....

When you want to unite two things you have to delete any processes listed in the process box to unite them.
For example, sometimes I like to show concrete walls or footings with my frames.
To create concrete footings you just draw them like timbers except you change the texture to concrete.
    As shown in "a" below.

Then you select each footing's processes box using 3-1-1 and delete any functions shown there. As shown in "b" below.

After you can unite using 2-7-2. As shown in "c" below.

So, if you want to unite two different size or shape objects you have to have no processes done to them first.

    Good luck.

VRML export is a great way to view a frame/model....
You may need to teach a client how to use a viewer. There are free downloads of viewers that plug in to your standard Internet browser.
    Hope this helps.

In previous versions you could connect a point to an object and then place that object in the library. Then install that object using that point as a handle for inserting.
Now with this version (6.01) inserting using the handle doesn't work. The position button doesn't seem to read the point.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

It appears that my tools bars did not update when I loaded the new 6.01 as I did a parallel installation.
I think I need to correct this.....
Maybe this should be addressed in a future update that parallel installation should also update the tools bars. Can this be done?

    Hi Bavariaboy,
-You can use the functions 3-4-1 General Cut or 3-4-8 Cut Perpendicular To View
-In the single beam info (middle mouse button), you can click "New", select "Cut off" and enter the parameters for the cut manually.
-You can also use the Smart Tags (3-2-2) to enter a cut off.

    Don't you mean 3-5-1 and 3-5-8?

I usually make my templates with the title box in another view port so that it doesn't rescale when you change your main drawing scale.
    Hopefully you've done that.
As for auto insertion, there is quite a list of things that the program can insert into your title box for you so you don't have to add them each time.
I have typed them into a word doc for easy reading, and understanding.
If this is something you'd like to do (auto insert into title box) I can post the list and give you some suggestions of how to make it work.
    Just let me know.
    Happy Holidays....
