Using the Object Library

  • Hello,

    I have stored a 4x8 Collar Beam in my Library (D-Cam 1-5-1).
I have placed it into a new position and have a couple questions.

    1) What is the best way to shorten the collar beam (while maintaining the processes on the ends)?. I used a separating cut and then moved the lap joints into the postion that I wanted them. Now, I want the beam to be only one piece again...

    2) Is there a way to make the joinery at the ends of this collar beam parametric to the rafter that it is being lapped into? The ornamental lap on the beam has a $ sign beside it in Single Beam Info, but is not creating a "female" side of the lap on the rafter when it is inserted.

    3) What do 3-1-6 and 3-1-9 do in D-Cam? Are they part of my solution?

I have attached a photo of the collar beam...

    Thanks,

    Daniel

  • Hi Dandepoe,

    1) beams that have been separated with longitudinal joints from tools menu (3-X-X) can be re-united using 3-1-6. (Please do not use 2-9-X to separate beams)

    2) Normally, the female joint should always be created. Sometimes there are problems in the program with the visualization of processes. You can check that if you move the female process up in the list of processes in the single beam info. If you are using a joinery machine, you can also transfer the beam to the machine to see the process. 3-1-9 can recalculate female processes but is normally not necessary to use this.

    Best regards,
