Using the sorting number you can sort a project with wall timbers to start with 100, ceilings to start with 200, roofs with 300 and D-CAM 400.
Is this not possible to do the same with the timber list position number?
Timber List Position #

No it isn't. Normaly you don't really need the timber list position number. Why do you need it?
-
It is nice to give the sawyer the timber position numbers in a cut list. This way the result is less numbers on the cut list being that the timber list number looks at the over size of the beam and not every process.
The sorting number works fine being that there are a few more numbers on the cut list. I just thought the timber position number would work better until I noticed that the timber number starts with the same number for walls, floors, roof.

You can make a list without timber position numbers and insted of this you use the line number. The sorting number should be switched on.
When you create the output you have the field 'merge lines'. Here you select the option 'cut list' and you should get the shortest possible list. You have the sorting numbers to identify your beams and you have a line number for the sawyer. -
I didnt think of the sawyer only using the line number to label the beams! Thanks Joachim that is exactly what I was looking for.
What is the main reason for the timber position number?
-
The main reason is a historic reason. We had that since a lot of years. But today we have much more possibilities. We know roof areas, walls, ceilings and packages still in the timber list which was not possible with the old classic program. We are able to merge the beams in the output but still know all the sorting numbers which belong to each line of the output.

Thanks Joachim!
