Sometimes when replacing a slice line I need to abandon the function being unable to locate the correct point. It keeps telling me this point cannot be selected. How do I leave this function?

I think I have been into this before. For me the only way out - as far as I remember - have been to select some random points to make a random outline that can be closed. Undo it and try again.

I do just that but no matter what point I select seems not to close.

That sounds strange. Remember that the outline needs to be open - you can't have crossing lines.
