I think that there are not many users in the UK and North America ..... yet!

I hope there witll be more and I hope also that there will be more activity on the English speaking forum.

I would encourage you to use this rather than the German one i possible, but it's obviously up to you.

    Cheers

If I get some time - a big if!!! - I will certainly try an put something together. Do you mean something for the help files - or a tutorial maybe??

Perhaps there could be a place on the forum to upload pdf tutorials - or even movies (not that I know how to do them!).

    Holgerbremen,

I too would like to know a bit more about the 'unknown process' - over to you Jens.

    Cheers

Sorry, none that I have seen. I basically taught myself - with a lot of trial and error and help from the guys in Munich.

It's actually quite logical and not too dificult once you've got the hang of it.

The best thing to do is try to write a test one, for a very simple combination of processes (which you might not actually need) just to get the feel for how they are structured.

Then move on to more complicated things.

    Hi

I am about to buy a new monitor to use with my laptop ans I would be interested to hear which ones people thisnk are good.

I will probably only be able to go with a 19", but if a good (and not too expensive!) 20" was around I would look at it.

    Thanks for any help

    Hi

Would it be very difficult to enable sub directories within the TFW. As you are only allowed eight charcters to name a wall type, it would be great if you could have:-

    C:\DIETRICHS0\HRB\ENG\company1

    C:\DIETRICHS05\HRB\ENG\company2, etc etc.

    Any chance???

    Rob

Another nice feature would be to have a third status for each layer which would enable it to be visible (in a pale grey perhaps) but not be able to be edited. It would be good to be able to take measurements from the visible but inactive layers, but you would not be able to change or delte anything from within them.

    Any thoughts???

    Rob

Please can we have Select all / Deselect all buttons on the Create and Edit Layers dialog boxes?

If you import a complex dxf with many layers already defined, it would be nice to be able to turn them all off with one click and then activate just the one you want.

    Hope this is clear.

    Hi

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to align two or more separate dimension lines?

I know I can draw a continuous dimension and just separate and then delete the ones I don't want, but I wonder if alignment is possible either now or in the future.

    Thanks

    Hi Joachim

I think a timer would be a good idea. Could you not link it to the Save function, so that the timer stops every time you hit save and starts again whenever a new command is invoked. That way, even if you do go for a coffee (or tea in England!) your timer will stop as you are bound to have done a save before your break.

    Cheers

PS Back on the Nescafe again - phew!!!

    Hello

I was wondering when we might see the new update. The latest information I had was that it would be before Christmas. This is getting a bit close now!

    Any news would be good.

Happy Christmas to every one at Dietrich's and all Dietrich's users worldwide!

    Hi Michal

I have been using Dietrich’s for over four years now and have found it to be highly sophisticated and at the same time easy and intuitive to use. It is not perfect (what software is??) but from what I have seen it is the best.

In terms of output, it is very very easy to produce automatic beam drawings – already dimensioned – which will give you two side views and an end view. These will include any hidden lines of joints etc. within the beam.

However, the hidden lines are all on separate layers and can be hidden if required and you can create views from the other two sides yourself and drop these into your drawing which would give you what you need very easily, quickly and accurately. Alternatively, you could use the two ‘automatic’ sides to draw in the other two sides in the 2D draughting part of the programme.

As Jim says, adding a 3D view of any complicated joinery is also very easy. This can be a simple line drawing or rendered with a texture for extra presentation.

At the basis of all this is the 3D model itself which, with some training and practice, is easy to create and if your frames and joinery follow standard designs, you will be able to store all of the tenon parameters etc. within the software so you only have to create these settings once.

It sounds as though you only are likely to need the DiCAM module immediately. There are, however, very good modules for the quick and easy creation of walls, ceilings and roofs – all of which have similar user interfaces and which can save a lot of time if this is part of what you do regularly. These can all be added later if you need – as can the machine interface.

Please do e-mail me or post again if there is anything else I can help with, but I would certainly recommend Dietrich’s.

    Rob Cullen

I have been using Dietrich’s for four years now and seeing a thread started about a wish list was just too big a temptation to overcome. I posted some of this list on the old forum and Markus knows about a lot of these but it would be interesting to hear what others feel about them and to hear what other people would like to see. I should qualify this list by saying that by and large Dietrich’s is a fantastic piece of software and like so often happens I have probably begun to take its capabilities for granted over the years.

Multi select in individual categories in filters – i.e. to be able to activate both lintels and sills without having to open the filters twice.

Separate cut in Wall Design and Ceiling design – this must be coming soon as the heading for the command is on the drop down menu

Return to previous isometric view in DiCAM after viewing in plan or elevation and/or remember predefined and save isometric views

More flexible and improved Timber Frame Wizard

•especially more than one type of internal and external wall definition per house type.

•be able to design T and L shaped openings in the TFW – i.e. a one or two windows tight next to a door

•be able to give accurate object information to elements created by the TFW – i.e. currently all horizontal timbers that aren’t plates are sills

Walls and roof areas listed in numerical order in the Building MOS

    A stretch command in D-CAD

Object information in Wall and Ceiling Design – I believe this is coming soon!!

The ability to change from a gable wall to an eaves wall on the same building side in Roof Calculation – a very frequent occurrence in the UK and not properly addressed in Dietrich’s – you need a new outline and it has to be treated like a dormer.

Roof surface panels to be able to be cut back right to the eaves in front of dormers – again a very frequent occurrence in the UK

Be able to hide storeys, construction elements etc. when positioning dormers

List previously created machine storages when making a new one

The current MOS dropdown list in DiCAM should be more than 4 lines…….

….. or even better, after selecting an object in MOS info, there should be a check box in the dialog box to select if you want that MOS to become the current one

To be able to have OpenGL and the DiCAM model open at the same time and be able to jump from one to the other.

When saving pictures or areas in OpenGL it would be useful to have a list of previously saved images appear before assigning a name to your storage.

To be able to zoom with the wheel mouse in DiCAM.

Sort out and improve the collision test as outlined in an earlier post.

Sorry about the length of the post but I hope at the very least it starts some useful debate.

    Thanks

    Rob Cullen

    Hi

Can anyone tell me if the forthcoming update has a collision test which works properly.

I believe that this is one of the most important and useful tools in the software and in the current release it really doesn't work.

For sometime I have also been asking if beams that are shown to be interfering could be left a different colour on screen from those that are OK after the collision test has been completed. This would make correcting the problem so much easier - especially in large projects.

It would also be very useful to have a tolerence built in to the operation so that, for example, any interference of less that say 1mm would be ignored.

Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks

    Rob Cullen

At present the dovetail lap command - 3-9-6 - does not work correctly as the tool on the K2 approches the beam from the side and not the bottom as it should. The result of thiscan be seen in the attched photo. This is not apparently due for correction in the next update, but I think needs to be looked at as soon as possible as the process is very useful.
